EDITORIAL ARTIST 2019 WINNER: CARLY PURDY

Canadian stylist Carly Purdy’s journey to BEA victory reminds us that we have to leverage our day-to-day opportunities to rise to the top. Behind the chair, Carly used her client appointments to refine her technique and arrive at the top tier of cutting, coloring and styling. While working at Valvano Salon, Carly had the opportunity to work with models on-set at photoshoots. It was in these moments that she found a new heart song that sent her from Canada to California.

Carly entered the 2019 Editorial Artist category with her look “Transcendent,” which earned her a spot at the Beauty Envision Awards live competition. On stage in Hollywood, Carly crafted her category’s winning look. The style evoked serious Cleopatra vibes, with a gold rope woven between tight plaits accented by glam waves. Yas, queen! 👏

“The hair was pre-lightened with Blondor Soft Blonde Cream and toned using Color Touch Instamatic Muted Mauve for its graphite finish. Using a knotted braiding technique through the entire top of the head, I felt, was the perfect contrast to the soft beautiful waves that completed this look.”

“Winning at BEA was purely a reminder of why I got into this industry. Being exposed to the creativity and artistic energy of the competitors and moguls reasserted that, for me, it’s about redefining what’s possible. Winning the Editorial Hair category was truly humbling, yet incredibly exciting. I’ll hold on to this experience, of working with the greatest people and competing amongst the best, as a cherished memory and milestone of my hairstyling career.”
